AFFORDABILITY was what drew Jenny Hall and Tony Locke to the gentrified suburb of Capalaba, southeast of Brisbane.

The couple recently bought a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 64 Brosnan Drive for $885,000.

“We’re originally from Wakerley,” Mr Locke said. “The space, plots of land, you get more bang for your buck here.

“Our new home is local to everything; it’s big, the size is a lot bigger than what we’ve had before. We’ve been looking for a while; it was more of an impulse buy. It’s a quick hop and a skip over to the Bay Islands; it’s great.”

The median house price in Capalaba rose 2.9% in the June quarter to $797,777, according to the latest PropTrack figures.

Capalaba was also recently named one of the most liveable and affordable suburbs in Brisbane by PRD, thanks to its relatively affordable median home price and its lifestyle appeal.

Property agent Adam Gould from Gould Estate Agents by LJ Hooker said there had been a good increase in growth for the property market.

“The last five weeks, we’ve seen a lot of growth and multiple offers on the homes we’ve had for sale”, Mr Gould said.

“Our main buyers have been first home buyers, and investors are returning to the market.

“Capalaba has a good mix of what buyers want, and it’s easily accessible to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.”

Mr Gould said the suburb had come of age in recent years.

“10 years ago, a lot of people were worried that the area was rough,” he said. “There has been a change in demographic, and homes are being renovated.

“People aren’t shying off at all; we have an average of about 66 buyers missing out on each sale. There is a real low supply of good, neat and tidy homes.”
