Rugby star Israel Folau puts former Tinkler estate up for sale

Rugby star Israel Folau has put the former Tinkler estate up for sale.

Rugby star Israel Folau has put the former Tinkler estate he and wife Maria bought in 2021 up for sale.

Dual-code footy star Israel Folau is selling his 4 hectare Brisbane estate – a property he bought for $500,000 less than former mining magnate Nathan Tinkler paid 15 years ago.

Mr Folau – who is weeks away from representing Tonga in the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France – had bought the property in 2021 with wife Maria, herself a former international New Zealand netballer.

The couple paid 25 per cent less than Mr Tinkler for the sprawling property which is located next door to the once beleaguered magnate’s former Pullenvale mansion called The Grand Post. Both properties were swept up by receivers moving on Mr Tinkler’s assets and sold over 2016-2017 for significantly less than what the mining magnate and wife Rebecca had paid, but have since gained back major ground in value.

The 4 hectare estate once owned by Mr Tinkler is located next door to the former mining magnate’s Grand Post mansion.

The 10 acre “semirural escape” Mr Folau has put up for sale had been sold by receivers for $750,000 in 2017, less than 40 per cent of what Mr Tinkler paid – with the rugby star then paying $1.5m for it. The Tinkler mansion next door was sold for $3.05m in 2016, about $2m less than the former mining executive had paid, with the buyer then going on to sell it for $6m five years later.

The Folau’s “captivating country home” is more modest than the Tinkler mansion next door, but the three bedroom, one bathroom, double car park property has had “modern updates” to make the most of its “bushland views and sense of privacy”.

The property is listed with a price guide of $1,750,000 – $1,950,000 by McGrath Estate Agents Alex Jordan and Zac Ryan.

Many improvements have been put in to make the house homely and open it up to the stunning surroundings.

Surrounded by mansions, packing 10 acres of land.

Real estate agents Alex Jordan and Zac Ryan of McGrath Estate Agents Paddington have listed the property for sale on realestate.com.au with a price guide of $1.75-1.95m.

Given the state of demand for property across Brisbane, the 4 hectare site is drawing attention from luxury buyers looking for large private escapes close to the city. The property is located just 18km from Brisbane CBD and is understood to have piqued interest from offshore and interstate.

The home was listed as having been “stylishly revitalised” including a renovated kitchen, contemporary bathroom, airconditioning, and a bank of bi-fold doors opening onto an expansive deck.

Functional modern kitchen, with a convenient serving window.

The property has a dam and access to the Pullen Pullen bushwalking trail.

Modern bathroom, ready to be tenanted or occupied while planning is underway for a new build on site by the new owner.

The home has underhouse storage, parking, a utilities room, rainwater tank, shed, and track access to Pullen Pullen Creek which has 2km bushwalk for those who love the outdoors.

It is the largest of three properties the Folaus currently hold in Brisbane, with the other two bought last year – a $4.25m beachfront property in Redcliffe and a $1.28m four bedder in rural Logan. They had sold off property in Sydney in 2022 to move their portfolio into Queensland, including a $1.725m gain off the sale of their Sydney home for $3.825m, and a $190,000 rise off a one bed unit in Little Bay, NSW, that sold for $1.15m.
