BRISBANE’S prestige market is on fire with the top 10 home sales revealed this past week totalling more than $43 million — although half of that can be attributed to the sale of one property.
The all-time Brisbane home sale price record was smashed with the sale of the historic property, ‘Amity’, at 101 Welsby St, New Farm, for a staggering $20.5m.
Brisbane architect Tony Dempsey and his wife, Poppy, had owned the home for the past 15 years before it changed hands.

The sale was negotiated by Matt Lancashire of Ray White The Collective and Jamie Charman of Charman Property Co had been working with the interstate buyer for six months before settling on ‘Amity’.
It was also a week where another potential record property hit the market, with a penthouse in Mirvac’s ‘Pier’ development at Newstead being listed by its owners, Howard and Hilary Stack.
The 1060 sqm apartment at 250/1 Newstead Terrace is on the market with Mr Lancashire and Sarah Hackett of Place Estate Agents, and has $20m price hopes.
The rest of the top 10 sales of the week were pretty low in value, compared to previous weeks.
The second top sale was another historic riverfront home, this time in Norman Park.
The circa 1930 property, ‘Omadale’ on 810 sqm at 26 Wynnum Road fetched $5.8m through Mr Lancashire and Karla Lynch of Ray White The Collective.
Records show the property had been owned by the late Chemcare Group managing director Kerry McDonough and his wife, Gloria, since 1994, when they paid just $838,900 for it.
