Former Hawthorn player and coach of the Gold Coast Suns, Sydney Swans, and Western Bulldogs Rodney Eade has landed a sweet $1.83m deal to tide him over in AFL retirement.

His extra large 194sq m two bedroom, one study apartment in Main Beach on the Gold Coast was listed as sold on July 6 after a 39-day campaign with a price that’s almost double (90 per cent higher) what the Eades had paid.

From 1996 to 2002 he coached the Sydney Swans, about six years after completing his stint as an Aussie Rules player.

He and wife Wendy bought the property for $960,000 in 2015, putting it up for rent two and a half years later for $800 a week. It was put on the rental market within a week of Mr Eade’s shock departure from the Suns in August 2017.

They were “extremely motivated sellers” according to the listing, having held the apartment for eight years.

“My interstate sellers have demanded I present every written offer for their serious consideration. This must be sold,” the listing said.

Mr Eade took on the senior coach position with Melbourne club Balwyn Tigers – which features in the Eastern Football League – after leaving the AFL level, a position he held for five years until last season when the club celebrated its 100th year.

His apartment at Montgomery Avenue, Main Beach, has stunning views across the broadwater.

The two bedroom unit also has a study that can be converted into a third bedroom.

On August 31 last year, the Balwyn Tigers announced “both the club and Rodney have agreed to head in different coaching directions and we wish Rodney all the best in his future coaching role”.

“The club thanks Rodney for his significant contribution to our club over the past five years.”

Mr Eade’s Gold Coast apartment is located in the 6,000sq m Waratah residential resort at the exclusive northern end of Main Beach. The complex has luxury five star amenities including a heated indoor pool, an outdoor pool, community garden, spa and sauna, full-size tennis court, fully equipped gym, and a newly refurbished community pavilion.

The Main Beach area is among the most popular places to live on the Gold Coast, close to many restaurants, shops, beaches and other attractions.

The Waratah has a community garden, two pools, and full size tennis court among resident amenities.

The apartment’s secure underground parking allocation is two car spaces or one car space and a huge lockable storage area.

The building is a short walk to the Broadwater, beaches, Marina Mirage, Surf Club, Yacht Club, and restaurants, bars and shopping at Tedder Avenue.

“Here, you won’t just find an apartment to live in, but a whole host of resort facilities to enjoy that cater to all of your fitness, health, and entertainment needs. Here, you’re buying ‘lifestyle’. A magnificent Main Beach lifestyle,” was how Ray White Main Beach agents Paul Collins and Selena Carson described the ninth floor apartment in their listing.
