Jewellery king Wallace Bishop’s forever home heads to auction

40 Rialanna Street Kenmore

The former home of jewellery giant Wallace Bishop is heading to auction this weekend for the first time in 20 years, with local buyers in Kenmore keen to pick up this iconic home initially named ‘The Gem’.

40 Rialanna Street, Kenmore was originally part of a 400-acre cattle estate built in the 1930s as the dream house of Mr Bishop.

Ray White Metro West’s house history brochure said Mr Bishop found peace and contentment when he was transported into another world on the property.

“It is a world in which birds roused him with the first glimpse of the waking sun and to us was like spending an hour at Tamborine,” the brochure said.

The current owners, who have lived in the property for 21 years, have given the house two architectural extensions and renamed the property ‘The Pacific Gem’.

The custom-designed front door has a diamond on one side and an intertwining palm tree on the other, establishing this home as a unique opportunity for the new buyer.

Ray White Metro West agent Jo Langstaff said the original house had been encased around extensions made by the current owners with beautiful architecture and soaring views across Northern NSW and the famous Scenic Rim.

“There is an original 1930s tapestry brick fireplace and the added warmth generated by the Brushbox timber floors,” Ms Langstaff said.

“It’s an iconic home for the area; I lived and walked to school back in the day and saw the property … anyone who grew up in the area knew the property well.

“When I was asked to go and pitch for the property, I was excited to see it.”

The home’s stunning New Guinea rosewood featuring walls of floor-to-ceiling glass lines in the large living spaces enhances the breathtaking views.

It encapsulates the property as an ‘enclosed diamond’.

Buyers can be impressed by the spacious five bedrooms, four bathrooms, the property’s ducted air-conditioning, Cbus automated system, fitted solar panels, three-phase power, Vacuumaid, New Guinea rosewood plantation shutters and extensive storage throughout the entire property.

Outside, the property’s resort-style exterior features a remarkable 12.5m mosaic-style pool, water feature, fish pond and floodlit tennis court.

Before the auction, five people had expressed an intent to bid.
