An inner-Brisbane Queenslander with over eight decades of history is heading to auction this weekend.

Situated on 864sq m, the two-bedroom, one-bathroom home located at 855-857 Wynnum Road, Cannon Hill, is ready for its next era of ownership.

The nephew of owner Charles (Charlie) William Blacker, Peter Blacker, said the home had an abundant history with his uncle, now in his mid-90s calling the property home since he was 12 years old.

“Charles Archibald purchased the house in 1938, it was a railway house, and we’ve had two generations live there, and our third generation grew up with the house.

“My father would go by and chop the wood, and I had two aunts and an uncle that grew up there.

“My sister and I had special exemptions to go to the house for lunch from Cannon Hill State School, just opposite the house.

“The Christmases held at the house were great.

“It didn’t matter what temperature it was; we had tables lining the house.

“Crabbing was always a fun activity on the weekends, and we would go out and put all the crabs in the boiler.

“My uncle was 12 years old when he moved in there; we’ve had a lot of life out of the house.

“I’ve heard stories about how he made toys, rocking horses and trains with wheels for the children.”

Mr Blacker hoped the new owners could make the home their own.

“It could be the land, it could be fixing up the house; it’s entirely up to them,” he said.

“Cannon Hill has changed; Charlie is the last of his family, and his nephews and nieces have mostly moved away, so it’s time for a new family to come and do their own thing to the home.”

Property agent Selina McIntyre from Ray White Bulimba said the property had a wide range of interest.
